I recently came across a post on one of the Facebook groups that I’ve joined. One of the members posted this up.
Now, I don’t think it’s right for anyone to promote businesses using such means. Basically, that person is setting up himself or herself as a fraud.
Here are 3 quick tips for a good photography portfolio, based on the context above.
- Never include photos taken from workshops/outings that you attended organized by other photographers – they were the ones who set up the lights and brought in the models and most likely set the poses for the models, not you.
- Never put stock/others’ photos into your photography portfolio – they are not your shots to begin with. Image reverse searching can reveal rightful owners of the photos. Avoid embarrassing situations where the owners call you out. If you can’t reproduce the works, it’s GG.
- If it doesn’t look good, don’t put it up. You want to show potential clients you can do good stuff, not shoddy work. Pay attention to details. Be sure to use properly calibrated monitors so you won’t have a portfolio suffering from wrong colour outputs.
