KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – I gotta say I love Malaysia. The food, the sights in the city, the people. All fantastic! Maybe this is why I have been coming back again and again to run more talks, sharing sessions and workshops on something I truly am passionate for – photography!
This time, I was invited by Siti Rohana, Corporate & Graphics Territory Manager, EIZO (Asia Pacific), to run a half-day sharing session on colour management for photography workflows at Broncolor Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.‘s experiential studio at Empire Damansara.
As an EIZO affiliate, I am honoured to be given the opportunity to share my knowledge on colour management and share my love for one of my favourite brands when it comes to photography workflows with fellow photographers!
Since the day I got my EIZO ColorEdge CG2730 monitor, my photography workflow has been streamlined properly. No more second-guessing with colours! If you are keen to read more about my experience with my own CG2730, read it here.
Topics on that day ranged from the science behind colours to the technology that drives EIZO ColorEdge monitors. I also covered how a properly calibrated monitor is important for the complete photography workflow with print in mind.
One of the biggest concerns with a photographer’s workflow is accuracy in colours when it comes to print. Here’s where the sharing session became relevant to more than just photographers. Participants also got to learn about the importance of working in properly-lit environments for photographers, retouching artists, designers and printing specialists. All these factor in to help cut costs such as time, money and energy when it comes to the endgame – colour proofing and printing.
The participants got to see a live demonstration of how the EIZO ColorEdge CG2730 does its own self-calibration using the free for download software Color Navigator 7. They can, in real-time, see the difference between a D50 and a D65 workflow.
Of course, any of my talks is not complete unless a live photoshoot demo is conducted to round up the sharing session! We got Lourens who came in looking very suave for the evening.
I had the pleasure of shooting Lourens with my favourite software for tethering, Capture One Pro 12, and the ultimate in medium format photography, the Phase One XF IQ3 100mp Trichromatic with a Schneider Kreuznach 80mm LS f/2.8 blue ring lens. I took a photo of Lourens to showcase how I use Capture One Pro 12 to do my tethering work with the EIZO ColorEdge CG2730 to display the photos taken.
Naturally, to get lighting perfect and skin tone the way it’s supposed to be, I used 2x Broncolor Siros L 400s with Focus 110 silver umbrella and an 85cm silver umbrella for the modifiers.
Broncolor lights, coupled with the Phase One camera, and raw files processed via Capture One Pro 12 and displayed on an EIZO ColorEdge CG2730 is the perfect ultimate combination when it comes to colour and details accuracy in a photographer’s workflow.
Participants also were given special offers for select EIZO ColorEdge products and Capture One Pro 12 software on that day. The offers were totally unbelievable!
If you are keen to find out if there are promos available for you, or if you want to book a live demo for any Broncolor, Phase One and/or EIZO products, do reach out to Broncolor Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. for more information!
Participants were also invite to join The Art of Mezame Academy Facebook group page where I make announcements for my next workshop/class/talk/seminar. Come join us to keep yourselves in the loop!
Special thank you to Siti Rohana of EIZO (Asia Pacific) for inviting me to do this sharing session, to Eujin Goh and Darelle Chng of Broncolor Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. for hosting us and loaning the Broncolor lights and Phase One XF camera, to Alina of Phase One (Capture One division) for her support, to Lourens for being an awesome buddy and model friend, and of course, to all participants who came to learn together with us!
